Jen is the best landlady we’ve ever had, full stop. With an incredible, thoughtful attention to detail, our apartment stood out in a crowd of ordinary living spaces. Every situation that required her attention was taken care of same-day, with the same attention to detail that was evident throughout our home. It was a pleasure to live in one of her apartments.

Who knew it was possible to live in a stunning Mission flat designed by the award-winning architects who brought us Sightless, The Mill, Flora Grubb and countless others? And who could possibly believe that the building’s owners, Jen and Andy, could rival such excellence in all that they do?
After nearly two years, my partner and I continue to pinch ourselves. The location is tops, the flat stunning and comfortable—but Jen and Andy take the cake. Their kindness, lighthearted humor, and generosity go far beyond any experience we’ve had in over two decades of renting. Highly responsive, quick to address any issue, thoughtful in countless ways… the list goes on. The building is full of people who feel the same and each have their own stories of how Jen and Andy have made home an even better place to be. We continue to be inspired by the impact two wonderful people can have on so many and have truly never loved living in San Francisco more.

Not only is the apartment amazing in and of itself (built in kitchen booth, big back deck, lots of windows and light, etc.) but there are two things that make this place stand apart from all the others. First, one could not ask for a better location! It is a 6-minute walk to the Hayes Valley shops, the Lower Haight strip, and the Castro, and a 10 minute walk to the Mission and Dolores Park. There is also every type of public transportation you could want/need within three blocks of the front door (the 6, 71, 22 buses and the F and Church Muni stop) AND a grocery store a block away. The apartment really is at the heart of the city. As if that was not a big enough selling point the landlord/owner is PHENOMENAL. Jen is a warm and caring all while working WITH you through the rental process rather than dictating everything. She is like an anomaly to the SF rental market. Let’s put it this way, she is the only landlord I have ever looked forward to calling and speaking with. I truly love this apartment, location and landlord. It is the all in one gem of a place the only comes along once in a blue moon!

For us 109 Buchanan had it all. Great location near cafes, restaurants, MUNI (check), loads of natural light (check), a fantastic kitchen where you can sit around a table and pass evenings with friends over great food and wine (check), lots of space (check), great neighbors (check). Best of all were the landlords (Jen and Andrew), so lovely – nothing was too much bother, always responded super-fast to any questions and are lovingly restoring the apartments one by one. My husband and I have loads of happy memories from our 2+ years living here together. We got engaged there and we lived there with our baby daughter. We shed a few tears when we left, but we just needed more space for all the baby paraphernalia. Our advice, snap this apartment up whilst you can. You won’t ever regret it.

We lived in SF for over 10 years and between the two of us we lived in 5 different apartments. What set our 58 Woodward experience apart from the rest was our landlords. Jen and Andy made us feel like family from the second we viewed the apartment for the first time. I was able to text, call, or email whenever we had a problem and I knew I would have a response within a few minutes. Jen even personally came to let our dog sitter in when she had locked herself out and we were away on vacation!
I would recommend renting from the Segal’s to anyone that has the opportunity.
58 Woodward is a unique find for an apartment in SF while it is small, the finishes are luxurious. The shower was like being at a spa, and if you enjoy cooking, this is the kitchen for you! Gas stove, (marble) countertop space for days, beautiful full tile backsplash, lots of storage. I also enjoyed that the main living space rolls right into the kitchen, allowing for easy conversation with guests (or family) while cooking up a meal. The location is also amidst the city’s best restaurants, bars, and all of the public transportation you could ask for (muni bus, train, and BART). Caltrain is just a mile down the street, as well. We are going to miss it!

Jen and Andy have been fantastic landlords throughout the 5+ years I lived in their building. They were super responsive whenever I had trouble with an appliance or with any other issues, and when we had problems with package theft, they quickly helped to increase our gate security and resolve the problem. They also always give thoughtful holiday gifts! I highly recommend living in one of their buildings!”

We only moved out last month – but we already miss Jen and Andy. The Segals set a very high bar for landlord excellence, they value a personal connection and familial relationship between them and their tenants, making you feel well cared for, and they are steadfast in their dedication to keeping their properties in excellent shape. If we ever had an issue, Jen was just a text or call away. The Segals addressed every concern quickly and with care. It’s incredibly rare to find a landlord that will not only let you make improvements/changes to the apartment, but even help offset the costs! Upon move-in, we were greeted by a thoughtful “welcome home” package, and even received a holiday card from the Segals during the year. These personal touches set them far above any landlords we’ve ever had.

As soon as we met Jen while viewing 58 Woodward, we felt at home. While living there, Jen and Andy were always a text or phone call away, and were so quick to respond to anything we needed – it goes without saying that they were the best landlords we’ve ever had, and we wished we had found them sooner! They genuinely care about their properties and the communities surrounding them.
We appreciated the care to detail and design in 58 Woodward – though it’s a cozy space, every inch is thoughtfully utilized, and the extra space in the laundry room was great for bike and general storage. Cooking and baking in the kitchen was so easy, we’ve never had so much (gorgeous marble) countertop space as we did there! One of our favorite parts of the apartment was the accent wallpaper – I don’t think we had a guest over who didn’t comment on how neat it was! Overall, 58 Woodward was the most beautiful apartment we’ve ever lived in. Aside from aesthetics, the location can’t be beat, with quick access to amazing food + drinks on Valencia & Mission streets, as well as nearby places in Hayes Valley.
While our West Coast living adventure came to an end, we are forever grateful to have met Jen & Andy and can’t recommend them enough as landlords!

Jen is the most incredible and hospitable landlord. When we first moved in, she welcomed us in with a basket of gifts (sparkling wine, cheese and crackers) – and was incredibly accommodating to what we needed during a transitional time of our lives. Whenever we needed ANYTHING, she was quick to respond + made sure we had everything we needed. We couldn’t have asked for a better landlord! Between my roommate and myself, we call her our ‘angel landlord’.” The neighborhood is also VERY accessible to the best of the Mission! 10 minutes away from Safeway/Whole Foods, 2 minutes away from Valencia Street / Mission Street shopping, and a block away from all the public transit to get you anywhere in the city.

My girlfriend and I (now my wife) lived at 109 Buchanan Street, Apt 5 for about four years and we absolutely loved it. The only reason we moved out is because we have a baby on the way and needed more space. We were really sad to leave as we loved everything about our unit and the neighborhood.
The location is fantastic you are truly in the center of it all! There are great bars and restaurants all within walking distance. You have easy access to Lower Haight, The Mission, Hayes Valley, and the Castro. We rarely drove our cars as we had so much all within walking distance. We also loved our proximity to The “N Judah” Muni Line, it’s just a couple of blocks and it’s awesome to take to Bart, shopping downtown, or a Giants game. For those of you who commute to the East Bay or Peninsula, your proximity to 80 will shave valuable time off your commute.
We loved the apartment itself. It is bright and airy, the views are great, and the private outdoor space is amazing (and pretty rare in San Francisco). We found the layout of the space to be really great for us. The bedroom being at the other end of the space from the main living room is perfect if someone is up watching TV or there are people over and someone wants to sleep. We were surprised to see how many fireworks shows the city puts on. You’ll be able to see all the Giant’s stadium fireworks, Kaboom, NYE and a plethora of other firework shows right from your own family room!
The icing on the cake that really makes this a great place is the landlords. My wife and I combined have lived in probably 6 different places in San Francisco over the past 12 years and we can honestly say that Jen and Andy are the best landlords we’ve ever had. Dealing with Jen was always so pleasant. They sincerely want you to be happy in the building. Jen and Andy take fantastic care of the building and have completely remodeled it since we moved in. Anytime we had a problem it was taken care of immediately and they always went above and beyond. All of the other tenants are also very nice and professional.
So there you have it, the trifecta, a fantastic place in a great neighborhood with the best landlords you could hope to have. I hope that if you move into this place that will enjoy it as much as my wife and I did. Good Luck!
